HMD Global, the company behind Nokia-branded smartphones, is embarking on a new venture by launching its very own smartphone brand.

This move, announced by HMD Global CEO Jean-Francois Baril on Linkedin, marks a significant expansion for the Finnish company. The new line of HMD-branded mobile devices will coexist with Nokia smartphones and undisclosed collaborations with new partners.

For the past six years, HMD Global has been synonymous with "HMD – the home of Nokia phones," but now the company is ready to take its next step. According to Baril, this step involves entering the market independently to focus on consumer needs and create a new world of telecommunications.

Historically, Nokia-branded phones produced by HMD have been positioned in the budget-to-mid-tier category, and this trend may continue with the new HMD brand. Baril emphasized that the company is committed to developing products for a more sustainable and affordable future.
